Legal maps are a new and unique way to present law, legal issues and legal processes to you, a layperson.

Law comes into existence because it is debated in Parliament or it is handed down in the decisions of Judges, known as precedent. When it has been created then it is written down; in other words it is hot air followed by black and white print. Not that easy to understand or use, if you don’t know what they are talking about and you are not trained to read law.

You might come into contact with the law through the Courts, which are part of the justice system, and which have rules that govern the way they work. You need to know of the structure of the legal system and the processes by which the Courts might deal with your issues. Structure is best illustrated by a plan, and process by flow diagrams. Collectively these are my legal maps; they illustrate the structure and the process, and the relationship between these two elements.

Now view and read these presentations about family law issues. Do remember that everything shown here appplies to civil partnerships as well as marriages
