The Legal System - Introduction

  2

If I suggested to you that we go on a ten mile walk with some colleagues of mine, then you would probably want to know the answers to several simple questions about our destination, the nature of the terrain, the time that it might take, and who might join us or assist us on our journey.

In order that you might have a clearer idea of our journey, I would introduce you to our travelling companions and then unfold a map to show you the route. I would explain the alternative routes available and identify the possible destinations. Finally I would give you some idea of the time it might take to complete your journey.

I am going to show you a 'map' of a legal framework through which you might choose to pass, and introduce you to some people you might meet on the way. By the time I have finished my description of this legal framework you should have a better idea of the way forward, the length of time it might take to resolve matters and how much it might cost you. You need to have this information before you start, so that you can make some properly informed decisions about your future, and the future of your family.
